Source 2 Compiler

edited April 28 in Tools

Yep, I'm new at this forum, I'm waiting for criticism :D

I created little tool at java - Source 2 Compiler.

Now it can compile: xml, js, css. Tell me about compileable formats and I'll add them to compileable formats list, or make Pull Request

It also automatically make VPK at parent directory of output directory.

Why I created this tool?

There's no tool to fast compile something like a cheat/modifications for DotA 2.

There's a problem: I can't compile "forbidden" resources like a HUD. Then I think'd about creation of fast tool that can compile resources... Then... You see this post? Then this post.**

Source | Download

Usage: java -jar Source2Compiler.jar

Ex. usage: java -jar Source2Compiler.jar "C:/Games/Steam/steamapps/common/dota 2 beta/" techieswars "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\game\dota_addons\techieswars"

Hidden ad: look at my addon: Techies Wars :D

P.S.: This tool written in java. Java is VM language, like C#. You need to install Java from to make this application to work.

P.P.S: I didn't found how to normally quote commands, sorry.

P.P.P.S: Sorry for my poor english, it isn't my native language

so what does this tool do exactly?

and how would one use it for the creation of a mod?

maybe i am just an idiot, but i don't really understand what it means to "compile xml, js, css"

    @fallia, hm.

Every addon - compiled resources packed into VPK.

Some resources just can't be compiled by common workshop tools usage - it prints something like addon can change only panorama/custom_game folder.

For example - you can't replace music/HUD by WorkShop tools

This tool compiles any resources of the list (xml, js, css) for any locations without limit.

I can add support for map compilation, vmat, etc. One your word and it's there.

And no, you don't need to use this in common addon - this tool are for forbidden locations (outside panorama/custom_game). For example I compiling my version of D2Jscripts
